      Wisconsin teacher honoured for mainstreaming autistic children

      This weekend, Julie Arens, teacher in Racine County, Wisconsin, will be awarded by the state's Autism Society chapter as one of the educators who helped it make possible to put children on the autistic spectrum in regular classrooms, rather than residential care or a severe classroom. Known as the "district autism specialist" in Unified schools, she handles not just her own students but also goes to other schools to observe and advise.

      Chicago: Orphaned autistic child and sister missing

      The FBI is assisting police in a search for the missing children of a slain couple found stabbed to death in their basement apartment on the Northwest Side. Investigators say the whereabouts of the three-year-old autistic boy, Santiago, and his two-month-old sister Maria may hold the key to the death of their parents, who were found dead late Wednesday.

      British Chief Medical Officer warns against refusing to vaccinate

      Britain could be hit by a wave of epidemics if parents continue refusing to let their children have the multiple measles, mumps and rubella vaccine, the Government's Chief Medical Officer warned. Sir Kenneth Calman said he was "deeply concerned" by the large number of parents abandoning the MMR jab amid fears of a link with autism and bowel disorders.
